Quantum System Architect

Full TimeDelft, The NetherlandsQblox

We are a spin-out from QuTech (a collaboration between Delft University of Technology and TNO) based in Delft, a historical city in The Netherlands located between The Hague and Rotterdam.

With a dedicated team of scientists, engineers and developers we are pushing quantum technology to support experimentalists worldwide with our scalable and low-latency qubit control and readout equipment (from ultrastable DC to 18.5 GHz, for academic and industrial quantum labs). In addition to scalable control hardware, we have created state-of-the-art control software – Quantify, an open-source python framework that can be used to control quantum computers and experimental setups.

Your Mission:

Qblox is looking for a quantum system architect to help us design the next-generation control stacks for quantum computers and quantum networks. These quantum control stacks generate the analog signals needed for the control and readout of quantum bits. The signals have frequencies spanning the range from DC to the microwave regime and need to have extremely low noise, temperature drift and interference. To reach these analog properties as well as stringent timing criteria in quantum computing, signals are generated using networks of high-end FPGAs connected to high-speed data converters. Furthermore, it is required that the control stack is scalable and can grow to accommodate larger quantum processors.

As a quantum system architect, it is your responsibility to design the stack of hardware and software that is needed to translate high(er)-level quantum algorithms into the analog pulsetrain that changes the state of the quantum bits. This stack contains software that allow experimentalists to express the experiments that they want to execute, compilers that turn these routines into instructions that can be executed by our proprietary Q1 sequence processor, and the infrastructure to get these instructions in the memories of the right modules. Besides applications in quantum computing, you will help us adapt our technology to make it suitable for creating quantum networks, which require synchronized and low-latency interconnectivitiy of control stacks at an international scale. You will work closely with the various engineering teams to guarantee that the system will be engineered according to the requirements you specify.

Your Profile:
  • Master degree and/or PhD
  • Experience with various quantum computing architectures and technologies
  • Experience in system engineering
  • Experience with RF electronics
  • Experience with high-speed digital electronics (CPU/FPGA/…)
  • Experience in Python, C and C++ programming
  • Ability to document things in a structured way

At Qblox we celebrate equality and diversity. We’re striving to build a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, cultures, perspectives, experiences, and skills.

You will join a highly-skilled and motivated team. We are shaping the future and have a lot of fun while doing so!
