Senior Systems Architect

Full TimeToronto, CanadaXanadu

At Xanadu, we are learners, innovators, researchers, collaborators and problem solvers. We are creating something that has never been built before. Few people in their life will be able to be a part of something like this, where if we are successful, the technologies we develop will solve some of the world’s most challenging problems, and literally change the world. And that is something to be excited about!

Your role and responsibilities:

In this role, you will work cross-functionally with the photonics, software, hardware and architecture technical teams to define the prototype roadmap and contribute to its development. You will capture and document explicit and implicit subsystem requirements for Xanadu’s fault-tolerant quantum computers, build an end-to-end system model that captures all subsystem intricate behaviours, lead the requirements flow-down to subsystems and clearly define the various system trade-offs. You will initiate the necessary changes to the system/subsystems and create roadmaps for transformation to a Model Based Engineering approach.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • PhD with 4+ years or Masters with 7+ years of professional experience in a relevant field (e.g. engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry)
  • 2+ years of experience as a Systems Architect.
  • Experience in successfully architecting the subsystems interaction for a large, high-complexity system (e.g. medical equipment, airplane, big science project)
  • Track-record of proven project management skills on high-risk projects or big science experiments.
  • Ability to work with and lead a diverse group of stakeholders, such as quantum physicists, hardware, and software engineers.
  • Excellent written, oral, and graphical communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for quantum computation.

Preferred Knowledge and Experience:

  • A broad and deep technical background with multiple years of direct experience in design and development in some or most in the following areas: mixed-signal electronics, analog IC design, electronic control systems, system integration with 2.5/3D packaging, optical communication, photonics, aerospace, and medical
  • Experience in creating model based architectures, using industry-standard tools such as SysML, MATLAB SimuLink, Dassault Cameo, Vitech GENESYS, IBM Rhapsody, etc
  • Enterprise, data, and/or system-of-system architecture experience.
  • Prior tape-out experience in mixed-signal IC design and system-level modeling characterization of products.
  • Prior background in photonics, quantum optics, quantum mechanics, or quantum computation.

Mission

To build quantum computers that are useful and available to people everywhere.
